The University of Kansas: Community Tool Box

A public service developed and managed by the University of Kansas Center for Community Health and Development.

Goals:

  • Upgrade to Drupal 10 before the End Of Life of Drupal 7.
  • Minor design facelift.
  • Performance and accessibility improvements.
  • Hosting and deployment setup of Drupal 10 on the infrastructure of The University Of Kansas.

Challenges:

  • Qualtrics integration / Drupal with Webforms.
  • Structural inconsistencies discovered during the migration: The Drupal 7 translation method for nodes was not always consistent; in some cases, there was no connection between translations.
  • Facing time limits on design reiterations.
  • Right to left language support: Arabic and Farsi and fine-tuning nuances regarding fonts.

Outcomes:

  • Went live on time, before Drupal 7 EOL.
  • Core Web Vitals is now passed due to major performance and accessibility improvements.
  • The client team is more than satisfied, we are continuing the cooperation with Support and Maintenance and working towards full ADA compliance and Drupal 11.
  • Nominated for the International Splash Awards in the category Education & Social / Community

    International Splash Awards nominee

BRAINSUM LLC was selected by the University through a public procurement process to upgrade Drupal from version 7 to 10, along with a minor design facelift.

We managed to exceed the expectations: the renewed site has been selected and nominated for the International Splash Awards, but more importantly the editors feel confident that this impactful knowledge base runs on a modern, reliable and future-proof platform that they can use easily.
